Venue: Sangha Yoga Shala

Description

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your partner (or friend!) learning the basics of Thai Massage.

Kevin and Dana will guide you through a hands-on experience of Thai Massage and Pranassage movements and techniques, with an emphasis on creating a caring, restoring, and relaxing experience for both partners. Enjoy the benefits of giving and receiving compassionate touch throughout the workshop, and leave with a simple sequence that you can replicate at home.

Thai Massage works the premise that energetic streams, or meridians, exist within the body. Through the application of pressure to key points along these energy lines, Thai massage helps to remove energetic blocks.

Sometimes termed “lazy mans' yoga,” the practitioner moves the receiver through a sequence of facilitated stretches and compression techniques resulting in both a physical and energetic opening, allowing for a freer flow of prana (energy).

Pranassage utilizes similar hands-on techniques with the simple intention of being present with your partner, often resulting in deep relaxation and increased body-awareness in both the giver and receiver.

No prior yoga or massage experience is necessary. No oils or lotions needed. Comfortable clothes and a yoga mat are recommended. (Mats can be rented at the studio upon arrival).

Dana was first introduced to asana and meditation while in high school, in the unlikely city of Las Vegas. After a few years of dabbling in the yoga world, she stumbled into a midnight yoga class at Laughing Lotus and felt her life shift then and there. From that shakti-soaked experience, Dana went on to explore vinyasa, mysore-ashtanga and yin yoga practices, always with the intent of one day sharing her yoga with others. She feels blessed to have received her 200-hour certification through the Nosara Yoga Institute under the guidance of Don and Amba Stapleton, who encouraged her own inner wisdom to be honored and unfold.

As a yoga facilitator, Dana strives to combine her experiences into classes that are breath-centric and dynamic, balancing spirit and sweat, alignment and free-style movement. By challenging the body, engaging the mind and freeing the spirit, Dana seeks to inspire her students to let their inner guru rule, and encourages them to forget about the mat and live, breath and be their yoga.

Kevin Courtney is a senior teacher at Kula Yoga Project, where he is known for his spontaneous and creative Vinyasa classes, combining the use of Kundalini Kriyas, Qi Gong techniques and Vinyasa sequences to create an ecstatic experience. Drawing from his study of yoga and meditation, along with his extensive training with Master Thai Massage teacher, Pichest Boonthame, Kevin’s Thai-based transformative bodywork sessions aim to get energy flowing more freely and efficiently throughout the body, allowing it to rebalance, restore and heal.
